My Petrol Chainsaw will not tension the chain correctly

This article explains how to resolve common issues when the chain on your petrol chainsaw cannot be tensioned correctly.

For Spear & Jackson CS4100 / S4140PC

This model uses a sliding lever and tension knob.

  1. Disengage the chain brake.
  2. Slide out the lever on the adjustment knob and loosen slightly.
  3. Use the outer tensioning knob to adjust chain tension.
  4. Re-secure the bar by turning the lever clockwise.
