Before You Begin
The exact assembly method may vary slightly between lawnmower models; however, the handle assembly mechanism is generally very similar across the range.
Before assembling the handles:
- Ensure all parts and fixings are present.
- Lay out the components in a clear workspace.
- Refer to your model-specific instruction manual where applicable.
Assembling the Upper Handles
One of the most common assembly issues involves the quick-release clamp mechanism used to join the upper and lower handle sections.
Correct Assembly Order
When fitting the quick-release clamps:
Step 1 – Insert the Bolt
Insert the bolt from the inside of the handle assembly so that the head of the bolt sits against the inside of the handle tube.
Step 2 – Fit the Washer
Place the washer onto the threaded end of the bolt on the outside of the handle.
The washer should sit flush against the handle tube.
Step 3 – Install the Quick-Release Clamp
Thread the quick-release clamp lever onto the bolt.
Tighten the clamp until the desired tension is achieved.
Step 4 – Lock the Clamp
Once correctly adjusted, press the quick-release lever down into the locked position.
This will secure the upper and lower handles together.
Important
If assembled correctly, the supplied bolt should provide sufficient thread engagement.
If you have followed the procedure carefully and the bolt still appears too short, please contact our Technical Support Team for assistance.
Connecting the Lower Handles to the Mower
Depending on the model, the lower handles may either:
- Slot directly into the mower chassis and be secured with fixings, or
- Attach using bolts and locking hardware.
Step 1 – Insert the Handle Sections
Ensure the lower handles are fully inserted into their mounting points.
Note: Some force may be required to fully seat the handles.
Step 2 – Secure the Fixings
Install and tighten any screws, bolts, or securing hardware supplied with the machine.
Do not overtighten the fixings.
Step 3 – Check Stability
Once assembled, ensure the handles are secure and do not move excessively during use.
Ensuring the Handles Are Fitted Correctly
It is important that the upper handles are installed in the correct orientation.
If the upper handles are fitted incorrectly:
- The engine brake/start-stop cable may become overtightened.
- The self-propel cable (where fitted) may become overtightened.
- The controls may not operate correctly.
Correct Orientation
When viewed from behind the mower:
- The start-stop cable and self-propel cable should run neatly along the same side of the handle assembly.
- The cables should not be stretched, twisted, or under excessive tension.
Before operating the mower, check that all control levers move freely and return correctly when released.
