My Electric Lawnmower is cutting uneven and rough

This article explains the most common causes and basic checks if your lawnmower is cutting unevenly or producing a rough finish.

Possible Causes & Basic Checks

1. Blade Condition

Check that the blade is not damaged, blunt, or worn.

Blade damage may be caused by:

• Contact with obstacles in the garden
• Rust or corrosion
• Damage to the blade adapter (e.g. sheared lugs)

If any of the above apply, the blade will need to be replaced.

2. Blade Area & Deck

• Check for debris or grass build-up around the underside of the mower deck.
• Remove any blockages before reuse.
• Ensure the blade is sharp and in good condition.

If the Blade Is Damaged and Stuck

If the blade is damaged and difficult to remove, follow these steps:

1. Secure the blade using a suitable block (e.g. a wooden block) to prevent movement.
2. Use a socket wrench on the blade fixing bolt.
3. Turn the bolt anti-clockwise to loosen it.
4. Apply steady force, then gradually unscrew the bolt.
5. Remove the blade.
6. Fit the new blade onto the blade adapter.
7. Refit and tighten the blade bolt securely.
